Dr. Jennifer Martin

Welcome to the TWU Graduate Assistant Orientation.  I hope you will take the time to review the sections of this orientation which are applicable to your particular assignment.  We want you to have access to information which will answer questions you may have about your position.  In addition, the information should provide you confidence in performing the duties of your particular assistantship.

Your graduate assistantship is designed to provide you experiences which enrich your graduate education and prepare you for future career responsibilities.  TWU designates three different types of assistantships, each with specific tasks.  Graduate Teaching Assistants are teachers of record for undergraduate courses; they have full responsibility for the classes under the supervision of a faculty mentor.  Graduate Research Assistants provide research support for faculty; research assistantships are often made possible by external grants secured by faculty members.  Graduate Assistants assist faculty and administrators with courses and support of degree programs.  Whatever responsibilities your assistantship entails, you are making important contributions to TWU programs, faculty, and administrators as you gain valuable experience in your field.

I wish you the best in carrying out your assistantship this year!

Jennifer Martin, Ph.D.
